What you need

  • A 64-bit computer running Windows 11 or Ubuntu 24.04. 32-bit computers can’t run Jukoke.
  • A processor with four or more cores, from 2014 or newer. Check before party day, not on the afternoon of.
  • 8 GB of memory or more (16 GB is comfortable) and 256 GB or more of storage; most of the space is for your songs.
  • Plan on up to about 100 guests with a recent computer, 60 with a laptop from around 2017, and 40 with an older one.
  • If you search for songs online, preview them or download them, your internet speed matters as much as the computer. Aim for 25 Mbit/s download or better, with the computer connected to the router by a cable.
  • For a big party, bring a router built for many phones and connect the computer to it with a cable. Allow about 0.1 Mbit/s of WiFi per guest. See Venue internet.
  • A WiFi network your guests’ phones can join, and an internet connection if you plan to play songs from online sources.
  • A TV or monitor and a sound system, connected to the computer.

First launch

  1. Start Jukoke. The party screen opens with a QR code.
  2. Scan the MC code with your phone and enter the MC password to open the host dashboard.
  3. The first time, Get Ready opens on the dashboard. Tell it what you have to sing with and it checks your screen, songs and Wi-Fi and shows what is left. You can open it again any time from Setup → Get Ready.
  4. Tell guests to scan the guest code, pick a stage name and a 4-digit PIN, and add a song.

New apps that Windows hasn’t seen many times often trigger this screen. Choose More info, then Run anyway. If you’d like to check the file first, compare its SHA-256 value with the one above.

Checking the download

On Windows, open PowerShell in the folder with the file and run Get-FileHash .\Jukoke-Setup.exe. On Ubuntu, run sha256sum Jukoke-Ubuntu.deb. The result should match the value shown above.

Is it working?

After installing, follow the quick check. It takes about 10 minutes and ends with a song playing on the party screen.

Uninstalling

Use Windows Settings → Apps, or Ubuntu’s Software app. Your songs, history, catalog and settings are left in place; delete them yourself for a completely clean slate.
